CFAES Launches New Research and Analytical Service Cores (RASC), Showcase Scheduled for October 3

Sep. 23, 2025

The CFAES Office for Research and Graduate Education is proud to announce the official launch of the CFAES Research and Analytical Service Cores (RASC)—a newly organized network of research support units formed from the former MCIC and STAR Lab resources. This strategic reorganization aims to enhance research capabilities and collaboration across all CFAES campuses.

The RASC initiative brings together four centrally supported service cores, each offering specialized expertise and infrastructure:

  • Molecular Biology & Genomics Core: Delivers advanced molecular biology and genomics services, including library preparation and high-throughput sequencing.

  • Bioinformatics Core: Supports the analysis of large-scale omics datasets and provides training in computational skills.

  • Microscopy Core: Offers high-resolution imaging and sample preparation for biological research, along with hands-on training and technical support.

  • Agricultural and Environmental Testing Core: Conducts chemical analyses of soil, water, and biological samples, with customizable methods tailored to specific research needs.

To celebrate the launch and promote awareness, CFAES RASC will host a showcase event on Friday, October 3, from 1:00–3:00 PM in the Kottman Hall lobby. The event will feature booths from each core, complete with posters, handouts, and service highlights.

In addition to the RASC cores, several other research support labs will be featured, including:

  • South Centers Soil Health and Water Quality Lab

  • Laboratory for the Analysis of Metabolites from Plants (LAMP)

  • Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory

  • Soil and Water Environmental Lab (SWEL)

These units collectively support research across the Wooster, Columbus, and statewide CFAES campuses.

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend, connect with core personnel, and explore opportunities for collaboration. Refreshments—including coffee, tea, and pastries—will be provided.
