Oxford Nanopore MinION

DNA sequencing on the Oxford Nanopore NinION is now available at the MCIC. The Oxford Nanopore DNA sequencing system is capable of producing sequence reads of more than 200Kb. Read lenght reflects the length of that DNA fragment submitted for sequencing, user-controlled distribution of fragment lengths generated during sample preparation can be processed.     The CFAES Office for Research and Graduate Education is proud to announce the official launch of the CFAES Research and Analytical Service Cores (RASC)—a newly organized network of research support units formed from the former MCIC and STAR Lab resources. This strategic reorganization aims to enhance research capabilities and collaboration across all CFAES campuses.

    On February 18, 2025, MCIC hosted a PacBio Lunch & Learn Seminar, with around 40 in-person and 10 virtual attendees. The event highlighted HiFi long-read sequencing and its applications in genomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics.

    Presenters Turner Duncan and Patrick Backman from PacBio covered topics like whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, and methylation detection, showcasing the Revio and Vega systems for high-accuracy, long-read data.
