The Molecular Biology and Genomics Core at Ohio State University is pleased to invite researchers, lab staff, and students to a Lunch & Learn seminar hosted by Agilent Technologies on Thursday, November 6, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in KH116 Kottman Hall (Columbus).
This technical session will showcase Agilent’s latest innovations in genomic research, including:
The CFAES Office for Research and Graduate Education is proud to announce the official launch of the CFAES Research and Analytical Service Cores (RASC)—a newly organized network of research support units formed from the former MCIC and STAR Lab resources. This strategic reorganization aims to enhance research capabilities and collaboration across all CFAES campuses.
The RASC initiative brings together four centrally supported service cores, each offering specialized expertise and infrastructure:
On February 18, 2025, MCIC hosted a PacBio Lunch & Learn Seminar, with around 40 in-person and 10 virtual attendees. The event highlighted HiFi long-read sequencing and its applications in genomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics.
Presenters Turner Duncan and Patrick Backman from PacBio covered topics like whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, and methylation detection, showcasing the Revio and Vega systems for high-accuracy, long-read data.
On December 11, 2024, MCIC successfully hosted a hands-on ddPCR (Droplet Digital PCR) training session for 20 participants. The session was led by Danielle and Chandra from Bio-Rad, along with Wirat Pipatpongpinyo from MCIC.
The training provided a comprehensive overview of ddPCR, covering its principles, technical tips and tricks, applications, software use, and data analysis. Participants gained practical insights into how ddPCR can advance their research in areas such as plant virology, microbial studies, and diagnostics.
We are excited to announce that Patience Baya has joined our team as a Research Associate in the Molecular Biology Unit at MCIC. Patience recently earned her Master’s degree from Youngstown State University and will bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to our team.
Please join us in welcoming Patience, who officially started on October 21, 2024. We look forward to her contributions and are thrilled to have her on board. Welcome, Patience!
We're excited to announce a more convenient way to schedule appointments for our light and confocal microscopy services! To streamline the booking process and make it easier for you to access our microscopy facilities, we've implemented a new online booking system.
The MCIC has received an equipment grant for a new short-read sequencing machine, as a higher-throughput upgrade to our current Illumina MiSeqs.
After 29 years at MCIC, our Director, Tea Meulia, will retire on Jan 1st, 2024. We will miss her greatly!
In the meantime, Jelmer Poelstra is serving as the Interim Director as of Nov 1st, 2023, and a job posting for a new Permanent Director is open (link - OSU login needed).
